Matthew Rice : Regional Manager
27 January 2011
Previous experience: I held a number of positions at my previous employment with Sekunjalo Healthcare. In 1997 I joined them as a Financial Manager of their rapid diagnostics division and in 2000 I was invited to form and manage their new International Sales and Marketing department. This developed a very profitable revenue stream for the company whilst establishing an international footprint for the brand. Due to the exposure to international markets, I also assumed responsibility for new product sourcing and development for distribution in South Africa.
In 2006 I was promoted to Operations Manager for both medical manufacturing companies in Johannesburg where my key responsibilities were ensuring factory output of manufactured products, management of inward and outward pricing of raw materials and finished products, management of both manufacturing plants as well as being the link between manufacturing planning / output and sales departments.
Prior to this, my first port of call on the employment high seas was in Port Elizabeth, in the motor industry with Auto Cable Industries in 1993 where I held the position as Accounts and Foreign creditors clerk. It was at this time that I commenced a Cost and Management Accounting diploma on a part time basis, and continued my studies in Pretoria in 1997. Between 1991 and 1993 I completed a Commercial diploma in Johannesburg.
Age: 37
Family: Currently single. Most of my family reside in Johannesburg, Eastern & Western Cape.
The thing you like most about yourself: Compassionate and willingness to help others and see them prosper.
The thing you like least about yourself: I expect everyone to automatically have the same level of commitment as I do.
Your favourite hobbies: Playing golf, catching up with friends and family.
A quote that inspires you: “Mistakes in life are priceless, because they give you the opportunity to never make them again.”
What do you love most about what you do? The satisfaction of seeing hard work and effort invested in someone paying off, knowing that I have made a positive contribution to someone’s life. Being involved in a project that makes less fortunate people’s dreams come true and realising their own potential is extremely rewarding to me.
What music are you listening to? At the moment, pretty much anything on the radio!
What book are you currently reading? “Football, bloody hell!” Autobiography – Sir Alex Ferguson
Who is your greatest icon? Sir Alex Ferguson – to take a slumbering giant and turn it into a world beater against the odds, to maintain that same hunger and passion for 25 years and to replicate success consistently over that time period, takes a special human being with very unique personal qualities and a vision for the future.
