UmzikaNtu Technologies was founded by Patrick Buso 18 months ago. The primary focus of the organization is technological innovation and to bring about solutions that would improve lives of ordinary South Africans while working in partnership with nature. These innovations rely on natural resources to function, which include solar energy, wind and hydro energy.

UmzikaNtu Technologies’ core business is in the supply and installation of Recyclable Energy Resources, Installation of HT and LT switchgear, Energy Management and Advisory, Project Management, Maintenance of Lifts, Cranes and Elevators; and General Electrical Installations. They are also involved, to a limited extent, in the IT sector through technology transfer and making IT available in rural areas.

Patrick explains “Our target market was spread across the whole spectrum as our products and services benefit people from all walks of life. We also considered financial ability in all sectors of the economy, and tailor-made our solutions in line with them. We are aware that different groupings of people have unique needs and require solutions that will satisfy these needs at a reasonable cost. Our client base includes government departments, tertiary institutions, development agencies, parastatals, municipalities; business development companies and individual home-owners.

While we cannot pretend that the sailing has been smooth, we can confidently say that we have made significant strides in realizing some of our set targets. Part of our challenges included the current economic situation which, in retrospect, influenced negative lending behavior by financial institutions. In the end, SMMEs such as ourselves found themselves wanting and out in the cold. Other challenges included the age of our organization and not being known in the market.

However, in spite of these challenges we have grown as an entity and have managed to secure some very valuable  contracts relevant to our business. Our sales have also improved due to efficiency and the effort we have put in to our Business Development models. Our customers remain at the top of our satisfaction list. We provide excellent after-sales follow up, which further assures our clients and customers, of our commitment to good service delivery.”

Patrick says “We have also continued to grow as individuals in relation to and because of the experience we have gathered in so far as setting up a new business is concerned.

We are very excited about our new association with the Shanduka Black Umbrellas. This new association can only help to strengthening our position in the market as key players, as especially in our sphere of Technology. It will further assist us in managing our business better by assisting us with various business management skills. We have already witnessed some great intervention with regards to training and formalizing business structures. We are fully confident that our association with Shanduka Black Umbrellas will bring more positive outcomes and will assist us greatly in our future endeavors. In the end, our success will mean further assistance to other budding enterprises which we hope to be able to assist with the skills that we will have acquired.
