For a reasonable monthly fee, the Shanduka Black Umbrellas programme provides member SMMEs with a working environment and the support services to enable them to thrive. Benefits include office space, computers, internet and telephones, vehicles with drivers, a good reliable Book keeper service, a structured mentorship programme with a business consultant/mentor.
Once SMME’s have signed their contract they are required to attend a three-month programme which consists of a series of interactive workshops to identify what they need to do to run their business more efficiently. The workshops also help them prepare a comprehensive business and marketing plan.
Each month, the SMME submits all financial records to the Shanduka Black Umbrellas book- keeper, who is also an SMME, for capturing and monthly management accounts are prepared for the SMME. This provides the required information for the measurement of profitability, solvency and liquidity as compared to forecast. The analysis of sales and revenue performance is performed by the SMME themselves on an ongoing basis through the month.
A performance management dashboard is set up for each SMME to enable a quick glance as to how they are performing compared to their initial business plan.
These emerging enterprises accepted for the Shanduka Black Umbrellas programme will benefit for a maximum of three years before graduating as stand alone businesses thereby making space for new companies.
Entrepreneurs selected are mostly individuals who have a proven level of skills (for example an apprenticeship) but very little business experience. They must be post conceptual stage. People with skills who want to start or grow their business are encouraged to apply.
